Ferry to Tea Gardens

Located on the Myall River, Tea Gardens is a lovely destination with a long and rich history. The journey across the bay takes approximately 1 hour (30 minutes across the bay and 30 minutes up the Myall River). The area has an abundance of bird and marine life, with dolphins spotted 95% of cruises along the way.

Explore the local art gallery and discover talented artists and photographers. Book a kayak tour and get up close and personal with the wonderful marine life in the area. Or enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants, cafes or Hotel on the waterfront. Throughout the year there are a number of festivals and events that you can enjoy.

Tea Gardens & Hawks Nest Visitor Information Centre

The Tea Gardens and Hawks Nest Visitor Information Centre is located at the Singing Bridge end of Myall Street, about a 10 minute walk from the public wharf in Tea Gardens. Their friendly volunteer staff can answer any question you might have on what to do and where to go, along with historical information and walking maps. Opening hours vary throughout the year, best bet is to give them a call on the number below and speak to one of their lovely volunteers.

Tea Gardens CTC Community and Technology Centre

Tea Gardens CTC

The CTC is a Community Technology Centre located one street back from the public wharf in the small shopping centre opposite Tea Gardens Hotel. Helpful volunteers will provide you with information on local attractions and walking maps, plus beautiful history books on the area. They are open every Tues Wed & Thurs between 9am to 1pm (closed on public holidays). Their website is well worth a visit, lots of information on events, sport & leisure activities in Tea Gardens, markets and dining options.

Galleries in the Gardens

Tea Gardens & Hawks Nest has a thriving arts community including painters, photographers, sculptors and mixed media artists. Set within lush shady gardens opposite the Myall River waterfront, the Gallery showcases artworks by the renowned Galleries in the Gardens artists. Works include paintings, ceramics, drawings, sculptures, etchings and prints, photography, jewellery, art cards and more. Open Wednesday to Monday, 10am to 4pm (closed Tuesdays), the gallery is well worth a visit! For info on the latest exhibition check out the Gallery Facebook page.

Lazy Paddles Guided Tours & Kayak Hire

Just a 5 minute walk from the ferry, and launching from Anzac Park on the Myall River, Lazy Paddles provide guided tours, kayak and SUP hire.  Experience the tranquility of the mangroves, learn about the river’s history and observe wildlife up close. Available 7 days, call Jessica & Darren to book ahead. The 2 hour guided kayak tour runs between 10am and 12pm, so catch the 8:15am out of Nelson Bay. Bring a picnic or dine along the waterfront once you’ve completed your tour, and catch the 2pm ferry back to Nelson Bay.

Too ezy! Kayak and SUP hire, plus guided kayak tours on the Myall River. If travelling on the 8:15am from Nelson Bay, request to be dropped at Hawks Nest, which is right next to where Ezy Kayaks launch. For lawn bowlers, Tea Gardens Country Club offers one synthetic and one Tifdwarf lawn, as well as indoor and outdoor dining. Visitors welcome, give them a buzz to organise their courtesy bus to pick you up from the public wharf in Tea Gardens. Just over the Singing Bridge is Hawks Nest Golf Club, a championship rated 18 hole course with great dining and amenities. Book ahead and their courtesy bus will meet you at public wharf either at Hawks Nest of Tea Gardens. For golfers catch the 8:15am departure out of Nelson Bay, and 4:30pm departure from Tea Gardens. Call the Pro Shop to book your courtesy bus pickup (must book in advance).
